It’s much like playing Civilization - but unlike the iPad’s older port of Civilization Revolution, a game strong on design but missing an extra layer of PC finesse, XCOM: Enemy Unknown is as rich-looking as any PlayStation Vita or midlevel Xbox 360/PS3 game. There's plenty of replayability because of the game’s clever use of branching decisions and tactical compromise. The single-player mode is deep, though, and unfolds with all the cinematics and style befitting a PC game. A future update will unlock multiplayer modes, but right now that cuts a little into the $20 value perception. The game is available on the App Store for $25.The version of XCOM I played, and that will be available at first, is single-player only. XCOM 2 Collection brings XCOM 2 and its expansion, War of the Chosen, to iOS devices with touch-screen controls and other mobile optimizations.

Adds optimization options allowing users to choose between Energy Saver and Performance modes (not available on the iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone X, or 2019 iPad (7th Generation)). Other changes coming in the patch, according to developer Feral Interactive, include "improvements to default movement controls, and numerous quality-of-life improvements, including clearer UI for adjusting elevation." The second is a graphics optimization option, allowing the game's visuals to be boosted even further but only on "iPhone XS / XS Max, all iPhones since the iPhone 11, the 2020 iPad Air and all iPad Pros released since 2018" according to the patch notes. This option is only available on iPhone 11 and up, as well as 8th generation iPads. The first allows players to choose between Energy Saver or Performance modes, changing the graphical output and frame rate based on the selection. The iOS port of the XCOM 2 Collection is giving players a little more choice in their viewing experience, as two new optimization features have been added as part of the latest update.
